Graduating to become a Certified Zero Balancer, with Dr. Fritz Smith

Zero balancing was developed in 1975 by Dr. Fritz Smith, a medical doctor and osteopath. In the early 1970s, Dr. Smith saw a demonstration of acupuncture which shook his belief in the Western scientific model of medicine. He went on to become a licensed acupuncturist, and developed zero balancing as a way to integrate Eastern and Western approaches to healing.

The term ‘zero balancing’ came about when someone who had just received a treatment said that she felt as if she had been brought back into balance, back to zero.

Since the 1970’s ZB has spread from America to become practiced worldwide although it is still relatively little known as a therapy. There are around 150 practitioners in the UK, all of who are also qualified in another discipline such as osteopathy, acupuncture or massage.
